From the back cover:
Nineteen years of game play testing across the continent from Hawaii to Newfoundland and Puerto Rico to Alaska plus three years of writing has produced Music Mind Games by Michiko Yurko, an extraordinary book full of sensational games for learning music theory and reading. Thanks to a wide variety of colorful, hands-on materials, sequential pedagogical concepts, and mind stimulating games, music theory has become a fascinating subject. It is now easily within reach of the youngest of music students or enticing enough to entertain adults at any level.
In Part One, Michiko shares her philosophy of joyful learning in a nurturing, unhurried, yet animated environment of students working together. They become totally involved in playing exciting games that are cleverly designed so that everyone wins. This is truly an innovative concept in education.
In Part Two, Michiko guides you through 24 chapters and over 200* games which help students discover all aspects of music theory and reading concepts. Students with solid music theory skills become well rounded musicians. The organization and inventiveness of this visionary book will keep any teacher brimming with ideas for years and years.
Music Mind Games will be enjoyed by students in private studio programs, public and private schools, kindergartens, church choirs, camps and in private homes. Beginning through advanced concepts are creatively presented. There are 575 photographs and over 325 illustrations to guide even the nonmusical teacher through this imaginative teaching technique.
*the number of games is now at 300
Note from Michiko: "Even though I have made many improvements and added new games since 1992, the concepts in this book are still valuable and I continue to use many of the games. Interested teachers and parents can continue to use this book until I finish a revision. However, due to work on the new materials and this website, that project has been delayed. The easiest way to learn about new games and concepts is to attend a teacher training workshop, observe student classes at workshops, watch the videos on this website, play the new games and materials included in the Puppy Packet."
Besides this website, Music Mind Games is available at these fine online retailers.
