This September marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001. In the weeks that followed, I composed America Remembers, a short work for piano that weaves together America the Beautiful and Yankee Doodle, ending with a tribute to the four planes. This year, the choir director at my church created a beautiful SATB choral arrangement to accompany my original piano composition.

I am sharing America Remembers freely with our Music Mind Games community around the world. You can watch the piano and choral version on YouTube, and both scores are available for you to enjoy, perform, and share.

The video is especially meaningful to me now. After the sound check, we heard unfamiliar, soft crying sounds from the back of the sanctuary. It was Zoli with a family member. As my service dog, Zoli was accustomed to being beside me, so I carried him near the piano while we recorded. I didn’t know then that we would have only two more days together. I am so grateful now that he was there beside me.
